Oh How Life Changes

Things Change!

And you promised yourself your life wouldn’t change…much!  You may not have thought you had any “grooves” or “patterns” in your life, but now that they’re all changing, you see exactly where they were!  So let go, throw your arms in the air, and enjoy the ride!

 Family Is for You!

Being a new family is hard work, but it’s also exciting in a whole new way.  You’ll be finding out things about life, and yourself, that you could never find out having chosen any other way of life.  And the eyes of your little one are your new windows on the world!

So What Now?

Feeling a little overwhelmed?  The key is: simplify.  This is the time to focus on what’s really important for your baby, and also for you!  And it may not prove that hard for you to decide what to keep and what to leave behind in daily activities: when it comes right down to it, the decisions will probably make themselves!

Relief Pitching

Just remember to give yourself a release valve, if you possibly can: A deal with your husband for some mandatory “mommy on-her-own” time, or a family member, or a neighbor you can trust.  Of course, you ARE superwoman, and can handle all of this without anyone’s help!  Just think of it as an umbrella being the perfect insurance against the rain:  Just knowing there are people there for you, can help you get through the more trying moments of new mommie-dom!

Embrace Change

The hours of your day are changing along with those of your child, just as the things you notice on an everyday basis will change, too.  Just when you think you’ve got everything figured out, your child enters a new stage of development, and all the rules change again!  Change is natural, it’s healthy, and of course you want your baby to be meeting all those “milestones”… and that means constant subtle change!  First smile, first laugh, first directed movement… they’re exciting moments, and bring new ways in which to interact with your baby!

Friends Come and Go

Even your circle of friends is in for a change!  Whether for good or bad, you will start to spend an increasing amount of your time with friends who also have children, especially those with children around the same age as your own.  Though this seems a sort of arbitrary way to find friends, it makes sense.  You have in common the single most important thing in your lives – your children.

You are opening new doors on your world, finding new exciting experiences!  As long as you don’t shut the old doors completely, you are simply widening the experiences available to you – another step towards leading a richer, fuller life!
