Egg Carton Caterpillar - May 12th

Egg cartons turn into caterpillars.

Description:
Transform an empty egg carton into a fuzzy, segmented caterpillar. You'll find that some kids will want to cover their creatures in pom-poms from top to bottom, while others will use the pom-poms sparingly for a polka dot effect. And while you are turning egg cartons into creepy crawlies, talk about how caterpillars eventually turn into butterflies.

Step by Step:
  1. Remove lids from empty egg cartons. Cut the bottoms of the cartons down the middle (lengthwise).
  2. Give each child one half of a carton, some glue, and some pom-poms. Have children glue pom-poms all over the outside of their carton, except for the first segment.
  3. Make two antennae holes in the first segment of the cartons with a pair of scissors or a pencil (adults only, please).
  4. Poke a pipe cleaner through each hole. Curl the pipe cleaners on the inside and tape in place. Twist the pipe cleaners on the outside to resemble fanciful antennae.
  5. Draw eyes and a mouth on the first segment for the caterpillar's face.
