Serve up stars and stripes for dessert, the neighborhood kids will feel like patriots.

All across America, on the Fourth of July, families pause for a day to celebrate their freedom. And after they commemorate the founding of their country, they sit down to indulge in a festive feast.

With a little planning and a lot of red, white, and blue, it's easy to create a fabulous menu bursting with the colors of summer.

Step by Step:
  1. Follow directions on box of white cake mix and bake in rectangular pan.
  2. Cool and frost with white frosting.
  3. In the upper left corner, form the blueberries into the shape of a square.
  4. Place the strawberries in a row to make seven stripes across the cake.
  5. Use the tip of a whipped-cream dispenser or piping bag to make little stars on the blueberries.
(Helpful Hint: Make sure that the fruit has been thoroughly washed and completely dried before you place it on the frosted cake.)
Materials:
  • Rectangular cake pan
  • White cake mix and specified ingredients such as eggs and oil
  • White frosting
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Whipped cream
