Teaching Numbers in a Rewarding Way

Description:
Aren't you glad you saved those pennies for a rainy day? Well, it is raining today! What shall we do? Here's a game to play, teach numbers and enjoy togetherness.

Step by Step:
1. Place a clean plastic carton that a dozen eggs are sold in along with a piggy bank on a table.
2. Without showing your toddler, place one penny in 2 or 3 sections of the carton, closing the lid afterward.
3. Sitting cozily near one another, ask your child to pop open the carton and try to count the sections holding a penny. Of course, with your help. 1, 2, 3.
4. Say, "Wonderful, you are so smart! Now you can use them to feed the piggy "bank." This is lots of fun. Let's try again."
5. Gradually increase the number to be counted. Each time he succeeds, piggy gets fed!
6. When piggy's tummy is really full, empty the bank and plan a trip to buy that reward for "good work." (Hmm, probably the Dollar Store")

Materials:
Empty clean egg carton
Pennies
Piggy bank
