Snow Ice Cream - Jan 30th

It's fun catching snowflakes on your tongue? And even more fun eating a whole bowl of them!

If you're lucky enough to live in an area where you can find clean snow, your kids will love making ice cream out of it. Once you've collected a container of fresh snow or crushed ice (for those of you in the sunny states), you can either mix up a batch of ice cream or each child can make his own individual serving in a cereal bowl.

Snow ice cream is best eaten at one sitting, so when it's ready, scoop it up and enjoy one of life's simple pleasures.

Step by Step:
  1. Collect some freshly fallen clean snow and put it (or your crushed ice) in a bowl.
  2. Sprinkle the sugar in and add some vanilla extract (not too much - it's very strong). If you have bottles of flavored syrup like raspberry or licorice, use a dash instead of the vanilla extract.
  3. Mix the ingredients together until the sugar is dissolved. Add just enough milk to make a nice slushy texture.
  • Materials:
    • Clean snow or crushed ice (approx. 4-5 cups)
    • 1/2 cup sugar (confectioner's sugar works better than refined, but either will suffice)
    • 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
    • 1 cup milk or cream
    • Flavored syrup (optional)
