Rate this Activity!
Brighten someone's day by visiting a residence facility for seniors.

Although the changing weather patterns offer beautiful seasonal changes, the end of winter can be a bleak time of year for some people. Many residents of senior centers have few or no visitors. Talking with an eager, happy child cheers them up tremendously. Call ahead of time to plan your visit with the coordinator of a nursing home in your area. You and your child can pick one special person to visit, or make the rounds.

  • Teaching your child to be empathetic is an integral part of helping him to become a thoughtful and caring person.
  • Have your child help you bake some cookies, or make a special craft or card to bring.
  • Your children might be surprised at the amount of attention they will receive.
  • If you visit often enough, you and your children will realize how much the seniors look forward to your visits.
  • This visit will be an important learning experience with great rewards for all concerned.
