Whether using fingers or a brush, kids love painting.

Description:
Kids love creating with paint. Whether they are applying it to paper with fingers, brushes, or sponges, they are sure to be proud of the result. No matter how abstract, be sure to praise your little one's masterpiece. If you're not sure what the art depicts, ask your child to tell you. You may be surprised at his or her answer!

Step by Step:
  1. Set up art supplies (easel with paper, paint, a cup of water, paint brushes and sponges) in a contained area or outside.
  2. Spread newspapers around the area.
  3. Put a paint smock on your child.
  4. Suggest what to paint if your child needs inspiration.
  5. Try different techniques: use a toothbrush or sponge instead of a paintbrush, or splatter the paint instead of brushing.
  6. Hang painting to dry.

Materials:
Easel
Nontoxic water-based paints
Large white paper
Soft brushes and/or sponges cut into shapes
Smock
Newspaper or butcher paper
Plastic cups
Water
