Clay Dough - Aug 11th, 2007
Sculpting clay into various forms teaches your child about shapes, colors, and textures, and puts him or her in creative control. Your child will love squishing, pounding, rolling, and patting the clay into shapes both recognizable and free form.
Materials:
If you choose to do this activity indoors, be sure and cover all surfaces, including floors.
Step by Step:- Roll a piece of clay (or Play-Doh) on the table.
- Squeeze it, pound it, poke it, roll it into a snake, mold it into a ball, stretch it, pull it apart, and poke holes in it.
- Give your child some tools to make patterns on the flattened clay.
- Form shapes such as circles, balls, triangles, squares, and letters of the alphabet.
- Mix two different colors of clay together and see what happens.
- When done, store all clay or Play-Doh in a cool, dry place in airtight containers.
