Skip the costly toys, make your baby laugh using your voice and silly faces.

Description:
Studies show that the human face is far more interesting to a baby than fabricated designs and patterns. And, your baby will look adoringly at you whether or not you're wearing make-up, and your voice is alluring whether you're tone deaf or have a five-octave range.

Vocalizing in fun and interesting ways makes the aural connection between you and your baby that much more stimulated.

Step by Step:
Share Funny Faces & Silly Sounds
As you observe your young baby, you may be surprised at the clarity of his gaze and how well he can lock on to an object within his field of vision.
  1. Move in close to your baby (approximately 8-12 inches away).
  2. Try singing a song in a high voice and then repeat the same song in a low voice.
  3. Watch the reaction of your baby to the two different sounds.Make funny faces, stick out your tongue, raise your eyebrows, wiggle your ears if you can, wink or blink your eyes, scrunch your nose, and so on.
  4. Give your newborn a chance to imitate your facial expressions. (She may not do anything yet but she's definitely watching).
  5. Repeat the sounds your baby makes.
  6. Add sounds of your own: blow raspberries, hum, buzz, whistle, shush, click your tongue, speak with accents.
  7. Puff out your cheeks and press your baby's hands or the soles of her feet against them; let the air rush out with a whoosh.
