Let toddlers play with their food!
With its interesting sights, sounds, and smells, the kitchen is likely to be your baby's favorite room in the house. Capitalize on your baby's interest by engaging his or her senses as you prepare meals. Your child is not concerned with proper nutrition; he or she only wants to know if the food squishes like mud or flies like an airplane!

Step by Step:
  1. Once your baby is able to sit comfortably in a high chair, you can start offering him or her small pieces of food to pick up, such as crackers.
  2. Pick up a cracker with your thumb and index finger. Explain that you are going to eat the cracker. Put it in your mouth. Eventually, your baby will get the idea and do the same.
  3. Try holding out your hand to see if your baby will pick up a piece of food and place it in your palm.
  4. Praise your baby for a job well done.
  5. As your baby gets older and has molars, you can add other items to the menu.
