Mirror Magic - Nov 13th, 2007
If you're looking for something fun to do with your baby, just gaze in the mirror!
Description:
Not only is looking in the mirror fun, but it also helps babies develop a sense of self-awareness. By seeing their reflections, babies begin to distinguish themselves as individuals and start to understand that they have their own identities. Distinctive facial features are especially interesting to a young baby, and you'll find he or she can entertain him- or herself (and you) for long periods of time with blinks, smiles, and funny faces.
Step by Step:
Materials:
A large mirror
Hats, toys, or other items

Step by Step:
- Place your baby in front of the mirror and say, "Look at (child's name) in the mirror."
- Point out various body parts. Ask your baby to touch his or her head, nose, and other body parts.
- Put different hats on your head, then on your baby's head, or let your child do it him- or herself.
- Make funny faces and ask your child to do the same. Move left, move right, and have your baby mimic you.
- Hold a favorite doll or stuffed animal in front of the mirror and make it move.
