Baby Massage - Nov 30th, 2007
Baby massage is a soothing way to bond with your baby. Massage can release a baby's tension and help her relax and drift off to sleep. Baby massage can improve circulation and sometimes relieve colic. It also stimulates the digestive and respiratory systems.
Most important, baby massage establishes a level of physical intimacy that helps with the process of bonding. Your gentle touch makes your baby feel safe and secure.
Step by Step:- Undress your baby, leaving only her diaper on. Be sure the room is a comfortable temperature.
- Lay her down on a bed, changing pad, or the floor.
- Warm some baby oil or lotion in your hands.
- Gently massage your baby's arms and hands, legs and feet. Move from the shoulder down the arm to the hand and from the thigh down to the foot. At the hands and feet, be sure to massage your baby's toes and fingers.
- Massage your baby's chest and shoulders. Turn your baby on her tummy (or lay her across your knees) and massage her back. Start from the shoulders and move down toward the buttocks.
- As you massage, sing or talk gently to your baby or play soft music.
