Shadow Play
Playing with Shadows
Shadows are an interesting and instant form of entertainment.

Sometime between seven and nine months, your baby will discover shadows. You can encourage your baby's discovery of shadows by creating and pointing out various shadow designs and create some of your own. Just orient yourselves properly with respect to the sun or a light, and you're set to amaze.

Step-by-Step:

  1. Begin by showing your baby his or her own shadow as well as your own.
  2. Move around to show that as you move, so does your shadow.
  3. Watch for other shadows: the dog's, the stroller's, and so forth.
  4. Learn to make shadows with your hands: hopping bunnies, barking dogs, butterflies, and so on.
