Line Up for Our 4th of July Parade
Floats and marching and loud bands - what 4th of July would be complete without a parade?
Before you go over to watch your local 4th of July parade, help your children and the other boys and girls in the neighborhood create one of their own.
Tell everyone to dress in red, white and blue and to bring rhythm instruments or noisemakers. You can help them use pots, pans and wooden spoons to create their own drum corps.
Play marching music and start the pararde around the playground or down the sidewalk. You can even make your own parade floats.
Step-by-Step:
- Line up tricycles or other riding/pulling toys for the parade.
- Weave red, white and blue crepe paper through bicycle spokes.
- Tie balloons or streamers to handlebars.
- Make a float in a wagon, with a child or two and a pet as the float participants.
- Hang cans or pie plates from the back of the bikes or trikes.
- Have your older children march and ride in different directions - backward, forward, left, right, diagonally. Also at different speeds - fast, slow, very fast, very slow! This will help improve coordination and listening skills.
