EGGS IN THE NEST CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK
Be the mother hen in this silly counting game.
Description:
Young children love to move, so helping them develop their coordination and gross motor skills is easy. The sense of achievement that comes from mastering physical movements increases a child's self-esteem and aids in socialization.
This silly adaptation of Simon Says reinforces number concepts as well as following directions and taking turns.
Step-by-Step:
- Number pieces of paper one through five, and place each piece into a plastic egg.
- Put the eggs in a "nest." A plastic bowl with a dishtowel will work.
- Have each child take a turn being the hen checking on her eggs. The child opens the egg to see what the number is and shouts, "Eggs in the Nest!," then clucks the number of times written on the paper. For example, for the number 2, he would shout "Eggs in the Nest, Cluck, Cluck!"
- Then, he gives the other children a task to perform, such as clapping their hands, jumping up and down, patting their tummy, etc.
- The children perform the task the number of times written on the paper.
