A House Tour
Baby Takes a House Tour
Your home is a source of endless entertainment for your baby.

To an infant or young toddler, even the most everyday surroundings seem exciting. In fact, you can provide her with endless entertainment without ever leaving home. Take your baby on a guided tour of each room in your house or apartment and interact with as many items as you can. Turn on the tap water in the kitchen and put your baby's hand under the running water, or open and close the blinds. You'll be surprised by how fascinated your little one will be!

Step-by-Step:
  1. Go from room to room and describe each location. "The kitchen is for cooking food - mmmmm." "The bedroom is for sleeping - ooooooh, nice." And so on. Be sure to describe shapes, colors, smells and sounds.
  2. Every time you pass a mirror, tap on it, and your baby will turn her head toward it. Say "Look at the baby. See Jen. What a cute baby!" This assists baby in self-awareness.
  3. When you pass a painting or picture, stop. Hold your baby in front of it and describe it.
  4. Be sure to draw attention to the items you have put on the walls or ceiling. Point or snap to get the baby's attention. Blow on a wind chime or mobile to get it moving.
  5. Go out in the yard and point out trees, flowers, cars, birds and, of course, your neighbors.
