Tips for making sunscreen application easier

Description:
It is so important to protect children from the sun. One of the ways to protect children over six months old is for them to wear a broad-spectrum, SPF 15 or greater sunscreen every day.

Although we know we need to apply the sunscreeen to our children, getting them to cooperate in the process is another story.

Here are some fun ideas to make protecting young children from the sun just a little bit easier.

Step by Step:

  1. Apply the sunscreen in a design on your child?s arm or leg. Decide together what to draw. Then rub it all in together.
  2. Many sunscreens made for children come in a variety of colors - some even have sparkles. Let your children choose the colors they like best.
  3. Put on some glam. Sunscreen makes great pretend make-up and this is made easier now that you can find sunscreen in a variety of colors.
  4. Be a clown. Dab sunscreen on your child?s nose, cheeks, chin and forehead. Look at the funny clown you have created in the mirror before rubbing in the sunscreen.
  5. Some children do not like the feeling of sunscreen when it is spread on their skin. Try mixing the sunscreen with a little bit of a lotion they like before smoothing it on their skin.
  6. Let your children put sunscreen on you before you put it on them
  7. Connect-the-Dots. Place dots of sunscreen all over your child and have them rub the sunscreen in to connect-the-dots.
  8. Make a sunscreen application part of their morning routine.
    • Brush their teeth
    • Put on sunscreen
    • Get dressed
    • Brush their hair, etc.
