With a little imagination, you can have a "beach day" in your own backyard.

Description:
Transform your backyard into a seaside retreat by hanging travel posters, setting up beach chairs underneath a shady umbrella, and filling up the wading pool. Most beach games can be adapted for a backyard setting, so let the fun begin!

And instead of going inside for lunch, why not picnic outdoors with all your favorite beach foods instead?you won't even have to worry about getting a mouthful of sand!

Step by Step:

Beach Volleyball

  • Try a kid-friendly version of this game, using a real volleyball or a beach ball.
  • The basic rule is to keep the ball up in the air, using your hands, fists, arms, or any part of your body from the waist up.
  • Catching the ball is not allowed. See how many times you can pass the ball back and forth without it hitting the ground.
  • Count out loud the number of times the ball gets passed back and forth.
  • Beach Ball Fun

    • Blow up a beach ball and write a number on each section with a permanent marker.
    • Roll or toss the ball to your child, and ask her tell you the number on the top of the ball.
    • If the number is three, tell her to jump three times or clap three times.
    • Now you do the same. Let her choose what activity you must do: hop, clap, jump, run in circles, and so on. Kids love seeing their parents do silly things!
