Buckets O' Fun - Oct 6th, 2008
Filling a bucket and dumping it out is more entertaining than you think!
Description:
Little ones love filling up containers and then dumping them over. It may seem like mindless fun, but your child is truly learning something. This game teaches him or her cause and effect, and helps build eye-hand coordination. If you don't have any buckets or other receptacles handy, make a trip to the recycling bin and you'll find everything you need to create homemade ones in a flash.
Step by Step:
To make your own buckets you'll need the following:
Large, empty, clean water containers
Scissors (adults only, please)
Electrical tape
- Provide your child with receptacles and the items to put in them. Be sure not to use small items that could be potential choking hazards.
- Demonstrate filling the receptacles up and dumping them out, and encourage your child to do the same.
- Demonstrate pouring items from one receptacle into another, and ask your child to copy you.
- If you would like to make your own receptacles, cut the tops off large empty water bottles.
- Cover the cut edge with electrical tape to prevent your child from getting scrapes and scratches.
- If playing outdoors, give kids sand, water, or leaves to use to fill buckets. Small toys are a good choice to use to fill buckets for indoor or outdoor play.
Materials:
Clean plastic bowls or large food storage containers
plastic beach pails
baskets
empty boxes or other cardboard containers Items/materials to put into the receptacles (sand, socks balls, sponges, small toys etc.)
